Dr. Abraham Fischler In September 1970, Dr. Fischler was appointed President of Nova University by the Board of Trustees, where he served for 22 years. In 2005, he was named President Emeritus of Nova Southeastern University. For Dr. Fischler, developing the entire student was the key to success, not just in the classroom but in life.  The only other things in life Dr. Fischler loved more than helping students and the community was his family. He is survived by his incredible wife of 67 years, Shirley, and his children Bruce, Martha, Michael, Anita, and Lori; his grandchildren Kenneth, Danielle, Michael and Mikaela; and his great-grandson, Jacob Paxton.
Nathan Bisk (NSU Law Board of Governor member 17 years) passed away on March 9, 2017. Bisk founded Bisk Education in 1971 to help people prepare for the CPA exam. Bisk Education later evolved into accountant distance education via audio, then video cassettes and later computer software for online education. Mr. Bisk was an attorney and CPA in the State of Florida and served on the Board of Governors of the Nova Southeastern University Shepard Broad Law School where his daughter Alison received her JD. Bisk was also on the Board of Trustees at the Florida Institute of Technology (Florida Tech) and served on the Board of Overseers at the Nathan M. Bisk College of Business at Florida Tech which was named in his honor in 2009.
William Tinsley Ellis (NSU Law Board of Governor member 23+ years, NSU Trustee 1964- 2017, NSU Honorary Doctorate 1977, NSU Law Adjunct Professor of Taxation) passed away on February 25, 2017. He practiced law in Hollywood, FL with Ellis, Spencer and Butler for 50+ years. Ellis was actively involved in numerous boards throughout South Florida including the Kiwanis Club, YMCA and Emory University and Wesleyan College in Georgia. Ellis was a charter member of the NSU Board of Governors and helped draw up the original 1964 charter.

1977

Shirley Fischler, graduated with a Juris Doctorate (J.D.) from NSU Shepard Broad College of Law in 1977 and is the widow of the Hon. Dr. Abraham Fischler, who passed away on April 3rd, 2017.

1978

Michael Fischler, son of Hon. Dr. Abraham Fischler, graduated from NSU Shepard Broad College of Law in 1977 and is Managing Partner at Fischler and Friedman, P.A. in the Seventeenth District of Broward County, practicing Family and Business Law.

1984 

Judge Robert Diaz was featured in the article Behind the Bench: A Brief Glimpse of the Work of a Judge” published in the March issue of the Broward County Bar Association Barrister.

1989

Robert C. Groelle was the recipient of the 2017 Real Property Law Award from the Legal Aid Society of Palm Beach County.

1990

James Edward Nutt was the recipient of the 2017 Advocacy for the Arts Award from the Legal Aid Society of Palm Beach County.

1991

Arlene Lakin’s article “Special Needs Trusts: A Primer – ‘Let me Count the Ways’” was published in the March issue of the Broward County Bar Association Barrister.

1992

Alan Crane was the recipient of the 2017 Bankruptcy Law Award from the Legal Aid Society of Palm Beach County.

Jane-Robin Wender was inducted as a fellow in the College of Workers’ Compensation Lawyers at the Induction Dinner held in Phoenix, AZ.

1993

Richard Merlino was a guest speakers for the Broward County Bar Association Young Lawyers Section 3rd Annual Boot Camp Series.

The Honorable Sarah Zabel will be a panelist on the “You’re Out of Order: Dealing with Incivility in the Courtroom” panel at the April 2017 “Putting the ‘Pro’ in Professionalism” seminar sponsored by The Florida Bar’s Standing Committee in Professionalism and The Bar’s Henry Latimer Center for Professionalism.

1995

Sarahnell Murphy was a guest speakers for the Broward County Bar Association Young Lawyers Section 3rd Annual Boot Camp Series.

Terry Verduin retired Florida Department of Children and Families attorney and is a current volunteer attorney at Legal Aid Society, completed the webmaster course at PC Professor, where she is completing an internship in website design.

1996

Brian Kopelowitz has been appointed Vice Chair of Business for the Arts of Broward.

2003

Bobbie Celler is shooting a global reality show called WorkcationTV promoting working travel adventures.

2004

Kimberly Gessner was featured on the cover of the March 2017 issue of the Broward County Bar Association Barrister. The feature was in support of the BCBA 3rd Annual Women Leaders in Law Series, “Looking for a Few Good Men!”; The importance of men who have mentored and sponsored successful women attorneys.” Gessner’s article “Looking for a Few Good Men!” was also published in the March issue.

2006

Christine Bialczak was the recipient of the 2017 Non Profit Award from the Legal Aid Society of Palm Beach County.

2007

Allison K. Hertz has joined Kaye Bender Rembaum as a senior associate. Hertz represents community associations and unit owners and is an active participant in The Florida Bar’s Real Property and Probate Section’s Condominium and Planned Development Committee.

Ethan Wall was elected to a seat on The Florida Bar - Young Lawyers Division Board of Governors.

2010

Valerie Barnhart was recently elected to the Broward County Bar Association Board of Directors for two year terms beginning July 1, 2017.

2011

Jessica Marra was recently elected to the Broward County Bar Association Board of Directors for two year terms beginning July 1, 2017.

Bruno Renda’s photo in City of Porto Portugal with the BCBA Barrister was highlighted in the March issue of the Broward County Bar Association Barrister.

2012

Daniel Lavian has joined Montgomery McCracken's Real Estate practice in New York, NY as an associate. Lavian focuses on Commercial Litigation, Land Use and Zoning, Real Estate and Real Estate Finance.

2013

Casey Mullin has joined Kelley Kronenberg in West Palm Beach, FL. Mullin focuses his practice on General Liability, First Party Property Insurance Defense, Commercial Litigation and Criminal Defense.

Rebecca Amelia Victoria Rodriguez was featured on the cover of the March 2017 issue of the Broward County Bar Association Barrister. The feature was in support of the BCBA 3rd Annual Women Leaders in Law Series, “Looking for a Few Good Men!”; The importance of men who have mentored and sponsored successful women attorneys.”

Aaron D. Silvers has joined Gutterman Trial Group in Ft. Lauderdale as associates focusing on the representation of insurers and their insureds in all aspects of first- and third-party insurance matters.

2014

Michael Cubbage has published a guide for his fellow veterans wishing to pursue a post military education.  A Veterans Guide to Higher Education Surviving the Transition from Military Service to the Academic Environment is a self-improvement book available by Lulu Publishing Services and at the NSU Panza Maurer Law Library.  In his 3L year Mike participated in the Inaugural Veterans Law Clinic.

Augusto Perera, of Albert Bordas in Miami, FL served as volunteer arbitrator at the ILS Vis Pre-Moot competition held in Miami, FL.

2015

Ariel R. Deray, co-published an article titled, “America’s Subtle Biases against Muslims” in Islamic Monthly.
