George J. Taylor (JD 2013), attorney at Brinkley Morgan in Fort Lauderdale, FL, recently chaired a capital campaign that raised $22.6 million for Broward Health Children’s Hospital. “As Chairman of the KIDS Campaign for Broward Health and through his involvement as a board member for the Salah Foundation, Taylor was able to raise the funds in less than two years for the renovation and expansion of the children’s hospital, which will be renamed Salah Foundation Children's Hospital at Broward Health.” | Read Full Article

2002

Harvey L. Brown, Jr. was featured in myPalmBeachPost.com in an article entitled, Lifelong Delray resident passionate about serving community. Brown runs the family insurance business, Harvey L. Brown Agency, and graduated law school at age 40 so that he may better assist his clients. 

Martin Kiar, Mayor and District 1 Commissioner of Broward County, was elected Property Appraiser for Broward County. 

2004

Kimberly A. Gessner published an article with the Broward County Bar Association Barrister entitled, “Pokémon Go: The Legal Issues We All Knew Were Coming”. 

2008

Thomas P. Fabricio presented “Property & Casualty Issues and Trends, Case Law Update” in Tallahassee to adjusters with Florida’s Department of Financial Services Division of Rehabilitation & Liquidation.

2012

Thomas Zeichman co-moderated the Intersection of Family Law and Bankruptcy Law CLE Panel with Judge Laurel M. Isicoff, Judge Robert A. Mark, and retired circuit court judge Sandy Karlan (JD 1978) serving as panelists.

2013

Alicia M. Zweig joined Lesser, Lesser, Landy & Smith, PLLC in West Palm Beach, Fl. She will focus on personal injury, motor vehicle negligence and premises liability.

Kit Van Pelt has been accepted into the Florida Fellows Institute of the American College of Trust and Estate Counsel.

Michelle K. Suarez published “Buzzkill: How to Make the Most of Professional-Social Events and Networking When You’re Not a Drinker” in the October issue of the Broward County Bar Association Barrister. In addition, Suarez published a commentary “Amendment 2 Tries Again with Legalizing Marijuana” in the October 19 issue of the Daily Business Review.

Christopher Kersbergen, Professor, Keiser University presented “Cybersecurity of Medical Devices” Nova Southeastern University Shepard Broad College of Law Nova Law Review Symposium on October 14, 2016. The Symposium was titled “Regulating Innovation in Healthcare: Protecting the Public or Stifling Progress?

William M. Bromley has joined Haber Blank LLP in Fort Lauderdale as an associate focusing on appeals, estate planning, and probate work.

In Memoriam

Clifford A. Lakin, M.D., husband of Arlene Lakin (JD 1991) passed away on October 28, 2016 from complications of Lew body dementia. Dr. Lakin served two years in the USAF in Del Rio, TX, at Laughlin AFB post-residency followed by a fellowship in pediatric surgery at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston, S.C. He was a general and trauma surgeon in Broward County since 1977, where he was a member of the Broward County Medical Association, the Ft. Lauderdale Surgical Society, and served as Chief of the Medical Staff at Imperial Point Medical Center.| Obituary
