Welcome to the Panza Maurer Law Library at NSU Shepard Broad College of Law. We invite you to utilize the extensive resources and engage in the many learning opportunities we offer. We strive to meet the information needs of the NSU College of Law students, faculty, and staff.

The Law Library collection is housed on three floors in a 43,000 square foot facility. The first floor serves as a Federal and United Nations selective Depository and contains the offices of the Journal Of International Law And Comparative Studies (JILCS). The second floor contains Student Study Rooms, Librarian Offices, the Technical Services Department, Study Guides, Course and Faculty Reserves, Circulation, Interlibrary Loan, the Community Patron Collection, and State Collections, Federal Jurisprudence, and Treatise Collections. The third floor contains additional Study Rooms, the Federal Collections, the Burris Collection, the New York State Law Collection, and the offices of the Nova Law Review. The Law Library continually adds new resources to its print and electronic collections. The Law Library houses 61, 915 volumes consisting of 32,150 unique titles.

The Law Library provides access to College of Law faculty, staff, and students to all the major legal databases (e.g., LexisNexis, Westlaw, HeinOnline, and ProQuest Congressional and Legislative Insight) as well as many smaller legal databases (e.g., vLex, Fastcase, CALI, and Quimbee). College of Law faculty, staff, and students also have access to the many other non-legal databases offered by the other University libraries. The law library continually adds new resources to its print and electronic collections. Copiers and student printers are located on the second and third floors.
The Panza Maurer Law Library also provides scanners that can scan to e-mail, electronic devices, or USB drives behind the Information Services Desk.

Library Services

NSU students, faculty and staff have borrowing privileges each semester that they are enrolled in law school. NSU College of Law alumni also have borrowing privileges. Most materials circulate for a period of three weeks. More information on how long materials and study rooms/study carrels may be checked out is available on the Panza Maurer Law Library Policies page (https://libguides.nova.edu/lawlibrary/policies). Codes, reporters, loose-leaf materials, periodicals, multi-volume series, and books with pocket parts do not circulate. Materials can be renewed once if another patron has not placed a hold on the item. To renew, either stop by the Circulation Desk or call (954) 262-6202.

To obtain borrowing privileges, stop by the Circulation Desk with your NSU College of Law I.D./SharkCard. You must have your Shark card with you to checkout library materials or study rooms/carrels. Alumni may checkout print resources by providing photo ID so that we may check their name against our alumni list. Alumni may access the electronic resources by registering with the alumni association. Please contact the NSU Alumni Association at (954) 262-2118 or email alumni@nova.edu to register.

Becoming a registered alumni will entitle you to borrowing privileges at the Panza Maurer Law Library as well as the Library, Research & Information Technology (Main) and Health Professions Division (HPD) Libraries.

Interlibrary loan allows students, faculty, staff, and alumni to request library material that the NSU Florida library system does not have from a library that does. The first link below explains how to place an interlibrary loan request. The second link will bring you to the request homepage where you can place your request. Delivery and processing times may vary; however, loans typically arrive within seven business days. Please call the reference desk and speak to a librarian if you require any assistance placing an interlibrary loan request.

Library FAQ

You will need your NSU Shark Card I.D. or your Broward County library card to check out materials. College of Law alumni may provide a photo I.D. to check out materials. Please note that many items in the collection do not circulate. Items that do not circulate include codes, reporters, loose-leaf materials, periodicals, multi volume series, and books with pocket parts. For information on which materials circulate and the length of our checkout periods, please check the Panza Maurer Law Library Policy page (https://libguides.nova.edu/PMLL/Policies).

The copier rooms are located on the 2nd and 3rd floors next to the elevators. Each room has copy machines and student printers. Copies are 10 cents a page. You can use your NSU Shark Card to make copies after adding value to your card. Non-NSU patrons can use cash to make copies. The law library provides two scanners for use by students and the public located behind the Circulation Desk.

The library has seven qualified librarians. All are dual degreed with both a J.D. and an MS in Library and Information Science. The Circulation Desk staff can call a librarian to assist you if a librarian is available. If you have a question that is likely to take more than 10-15 minutes, please make an appointment with a reference librarian (https://law-nova.libcal.com/appointments/).

Food and drinks are permitted in the library. Please make sure to throw all waste in trash cans and report any spills to the circulation desk.

The law library keeps statistics on which books are being used so that we can better decide how to allocate our budget. For this reason, please put the books you use on the red carts at the end of the stacks so that our staff can re-shelve them.

Restrooms are located on the east side of each floor, past the elevator. Once past the elevator, turn right.

The water fountains are also located on the east side of each floor, past the elevator. As you pass the elevator, turn right.

There are 28 study rooms available for checkout by NSU College of Law students only. (https://law-nova.libcal.com/reserve/spaces/studyrooms)

The entire Panza Maurer Law Library is a quiet zone. Please take cell phone conversations outside the law library onto the bridge or Atrium. College of Law students who wish to work collaboratively in the Panza Maurer Law Library may check out a study room.
