Carlota Toledo

Carlota Toledo is a Professor of Practice in the Academic Success and Professionalism (ASP) Program. Professor Toledo teaches the Legal Skills and Professionalism (LSP) I and II courses. In these courses, she helps students self-assess and develop the essential legal skills that make up the three pillars of the ASP Program: critical reading, logical reasoning, and professional identity. These are the skills needed to excel in law school, pass the bar exam, and succeed in the practice of law.

Professor Toledo also serves as a Coach in the NSU Law Raising the Bar (RTB) program where she mentors and advises recent graduates throughout their preparation for the Florida Bar Exam as well as the Uniform Bar Exam (UBE) and other jurisdictions. She has extensive experience coaching and tutoring law school graduates as they study for the bar exam. 

Professor Toledo has over 15 years of experience in student affairs and academic advising in post-baccalaureate higher education.  She helps professional students with their academic progress and professional identity formation.  Before joining NSU Law, Professor Toledo worked with law and medical students at Indiana University School of Medicine, Indiana University Robert H. McKinney School of Law, and Michigan State University College of Law.

Professor Toledo has presented at several national and local student affairs and academic advising conferences on the topics of academic support, co-curricular assessment, professional identity formation, and resilience.

Professor Toledo is a licensed attorney in Illinois and a founding member of the Association for Academic Support Educators (AASE). She is also a member of the American Association of Law Schools (AALS) sections on Academic Support, Balance and Well-being, Empirical Study of Legal Education and the Legal Profession, and Women in Legal Education as well as the National Academic Advising Association (NACADA).

At NSU, Professor Toledo serves on the Learning and Educational Center (LEC) Advisory Council. 

Professor Toledo’s research interests include topics in academic support, professional identity formation, and assessment. Her teaching experience includes courses in Legal Analysis and Drafting Skills focused on essay and Multistate Performance Test (MPT).
